One of the most terrible events in the world history - Khojaly Tragedy is a massacre and genocide against ethnic Azerbaijanis of Nagorno-Karabakh during Armenia–Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict beginning since 1988.


On  February 26, 1992 the most cruel massacre of XX century and more horrible one than Katyn, Hirosima, Holocaust was committed in Khojaly by Armenian armed forces with the help of 366 regiment of Russia while the town of Khojaly was occupied.


7000 Azerbaijani civilians remained in Khojaly with a population of 24,417 (1991) and situating 14 km north-east to the capital city of Nagorno-Karabakh, Khankendi.


Khojaly embraced a lot of Azerbaijanis who had been fled from their homes in Armenia and Khankendi by Armenians at that time and Meskhetian Turks expelled from Fergana in 1989.


On the night of 25 to 26 February, 1992 Armenian armed forces with the help of 366 regiment of former USSR located in the town of Khankendi attacked   peaceful and unarmed population of Khojaly with artillery and heavy military equipment for 5 hours and committed fire, murder and unprecedented atrocities and ancient Khojaly was razed to the ground in one night.


Khojaly inhabitanss were tortured. Women, girls and brides were captured, children, the elderly were taken hostages, people who managed to run to mountains, forests died from cold and frost.


At that night in Khojaly  613 people were killed, 487 became disabled, 1275 peaceful civilians-the elderly, children, women were captured and exposed to unimaginable brutality and insults. The fate of 150 people is still unknown.


8 families were completely annihilated, 24 children lost both parents, 130 children lost one parent.


613 people included 106 women, 63 children and 70 elderly.


In this crime 56 people were tortured to death. They were burned alive, beheaded, their faces were scalped,babies’ eyes were gouged out, pregnants’ bellies were cut with bayonet. Armenians insulted even corpses....


Azerbaijani nation and government will never forget and will always remember Khojaly tragedy.


Every year, action plan to commemorate anniversary of Khojaly genocide  is approved.


Every year, on February 26 the first lessons in educational institutions are dedicated to Khojaly genocide.  


On that day at 17:00 cherished memory of Khojaly genocide victims is recalled with one-minute silence all over the country, regarding Khojaly genocide day the state flags of Azerbaijan are flown at half-mast in cities, rayons, villages and districts of the republic.


Every year,  monuments to memory of Khojaly genocide victims and Martyr's Alley in Baku and rayons are visited, events (press conferences, commemorative events) regarding genocide are held in embassies, missions, consulates and diasporas, information on bloody massacre is given in foreign and local mass media, in TV channels and web sites.


Every year, commemorative events  dedicated to memory of Khojaly genocide victims are orgianized by religious confessions and instituions in Azerbaijan, commemorative nights , photo exhibitions are held,  heads of state bodies in Baku and cities and rayons where Khojaly inhabitants temporarily settled, deputies of Milli Majlis and intellectuals meet with the families of martyrs and veterans.


Azerbaijan is proud of its heroic sons and daughters and with martyrs who perished for   Azerbaijan.


February 26 of every year  will remain in the history as a day of pride for Azerbaijan and day of shame for Armenian leaderhsip and nation.
